Wooden shoes are worn by people of Holland, though wood shoes are common in several other countries. As the dutch were poor they found an alternative material for expensive leather. They invented the "Klompen", an evolution from the first sandal shaped footbeds.
People from Holland wear wooden shoes for walking or use in the damp fields (farm field). The wooden clogs (shoes) worn by dutch people are called Klompen in dutch.
