ஹம்மிங்பேர்டுகள் (ஓசனிச்சிட்டுகள்)அந்தரத்தில் பறந்துகொண்டே பூவில் இருந்து தேன் உண்ணும் திறனை கொண்டவை. இப்பறவையின் இறக்கைகள் நொடிக்கு 60-80 தடவை அதிவேகமாக அடிப்பதால் "உசுஉசு " என்று எழும் ஒலியால் இதற்கு ஓசனிச்சிட்டு என்று பெயர். ஓசனித்தல் என்பதற்கு பறவைகளின் இறக்கைகள் விரைந்து அடிக்கும் பொழுது எழுப்பப்படும் ஒலி என்று பொருள். அந்தரத்தில் ஓரிடத்திலேயே பறந்துகொண்டே நிற்பது மட்டுமல்லாமல் இது பறந்துகொண்டே பின்னோக்கியும் பறக்கும். பின்னோக்கியவாறே இடமாகவும், வலமாகவும், தலைகீழாகவும், மேலெழுந்து பறக்கும் ஆற்றல் பெற்றது. இப்பறவைகளின் முக்கிய‌ உணவாக‌ பூந்தேனும் சிறு பூச்சிகளுமாகும். உடல் வளர்ச்சிக்குத்தேவையான புரதச் சத்தினை பூச்சிகளை உண்பதன் மூலம் பெற்றுக்கொள்கின்றன‌.

The Hummingbird is the only bird that is capable of flying backwards because it has special wings that can rotate to enable it fly backwards. Hummingbirds can fly up and down, backwards, left and right, and strangely even upside down all because of their unique upstroke strength. All other birds use the down stroke so as to power their flight.

Hummingbirds can fly backwards, sideways, up, down, and hover. The reason is, a hummingbird can move its wings in a circle. No other bird can do such activities.
